[Sergio Aguero on Man City] The fact that an Englishman has an Argentinian as an idol is something very rare. I keep watching the goal that I scored against QPR and every time that I do, I get more emotional. I have no intention of joining another club. My plan is to stay here because City can measure up with Real Madrid, Barcelona and the likes. I am convinced that City will be at their level

[Sergio Aguero on No10 shirt] That No10 shirt has an owner. But somebody had to use it against Peru and Leo asked me to wear it. However, some people wrote to me afterwards and questioned what I was doing in the No10. I told them that shirt belongs to Leo. But I also want to win the World Cup and become the best player in the world

[Sergio Aguero on how he met Lionel Messi] I was about to turn 17. We were both called up [to the Argentina U-20s] for some friendlies. We were at the AFA training complex. I got sat at the table with him, [Ezequiel] Garay and [Lautaro] Formica. I was sat beside him. I looked at him but I didn’t know who he was. They were talking about some football boots. Then Leo sad, ‘They’re from the USA’. So I started thinking, ‘Where’s this guy from?’ I couldn’t resist and I asked him, ‘What’s your name?’ He said ‘Leo’ and I asked, ‘And what’s your surname?’ He said ‘Messi’ but it didn’t mean anything to me. I asked him again to see if it sounded familiar, and he again said ‘Messi’. He laughed and then we all laughed. Later I was thinking and I remembered that there was this kid everyone was talking about, who arrived at Barcelona when he was 12. That’s when I realised it must be him!

[Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero says Frank Lampard is his favourite Premier League top ten goalscorer] There are some great names in the Premier League top 20, but without a doubt, for his goal tally and lead over everybody else, Alan Shearer deserves to be on the podium. That said, there are a number of other players I admire. I’d say it’s a matter of taste or playing style because the Premier League has hosted many of the greats – and still does: Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry to name just a few. But as my personal favourite, I’d like to choose Frank Lampard, who in spite of not being necessarily a striker, stands among the top 10 goalscorers. That deserves praise

[Sergio Aguero speaks about team-mate and The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016 nominee Lionel Messi] You only have to say hello to Leo to realise what a good kid he is. A lot of people don’t know that, because he doesn’t like to show it on TV or in public. He’s just an ordinary guy, though. He’s a good mixer and he cracks jokes just like any Argentinian. He gets on well with everyone and he’s as normal as they come

[Sergio Aguero speaks after their 3-1 victory over Watford about his dream of lifting the Champions League trophy with his club] The Premier League isn’t decided yet, but we are in a position of great strength to win it. It’s my seventh year here, I know a bit about the league and the most important thing is to win points in December, and we have done that very well, we have to keep it going in the matches that are left. I would prefer to win the Champions League over the league because it’s something City haven’t won yet

[Sergio Aguero spoke out on Friday to suggest that players are anxious over the prospect of returning to action too early] I’m scared, but I’m with my girlfriend here and I’m not going to be in contact with other people. I’m locked in my house and the only person I could infect is my girlfriend

They’re saying that there are people that have it and don’t have any symptoms but still infect you. That’s why I am here at home. Maybe I have the illness and I don’t even know

[Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero tells Thierry Henry who his footballing idol was] When I was a kid, I looked up to Michael Owen. I’ve always said it. I liked him because he’s small. He had the number 10 just like in my club and he played as a forward. So I told myself if a small player like him is doing well in the Premier league then I could make it too. Imagine that I was only a kid. I was nine-ten years old
