[on Euro 2016 final] ll the French were in one hotel room, and all the Portuguese were in the other. That was the only way to keep the peace. When we faced France in the Euro 2016 final it was the biggest game in the history of Portuguese football. It was also a moment I had been waiting for my whole life - I had worked so hard to get there. But when my teammates came out of the tunnel at the Stade de France, I was hundreds of kilometers away. I wasn’t living my dream. I was in a hotel room in Switzerland, watching the game on television

[Man City lining up new long-term deal for Bernardo Silva] The final stages are concluding for a lot of new contracts with positive news expected soon. We are convinced he is the heir to his midfield namesake David Silva. He’s probably been our best player this season. He has stepped comfortably into the huge void left by Kevin De Bruyne, who has struggled with injury. Bernardo absolutely loves being at City and all the people connected with it, this is one big happy family for him. He has seen some of the other guys pledging their futures and is ready to do the same. Playing for Pep is a dream for him.

[Bernardo Silva has welcomed the €70 million arrival of Rodri at Manchester City, with the club’s record signing tipped to make Pep Guardiola’s squad more complete] He’s only just arrived but I hope he can improve our squad. He had a fantastic season with Atletico and it’s good to have a player in that position that we lacked. Fernandinho was the only one and then [Ilkay] Gundogan was fantastic when he played there. It’s good to have a more complete squad and I hope he can improve us even more.

[When quizzed on whether he feels back to full match sharpness] Not yet. We just arrived a week ago, but I will try to get back to my best. But it’s normal - each pre-season it takes two, three weeks, depending on the season, but I am working hard to try and get back to my best and that’s what I will try to do

[Bernardo Silva believes Manchester City prodigy Phil Foden will rank among the world’s best midfielders within two years] I just think he’s six years younger than me, but he’s a huge, huge talent. If he keeps working as hard as he does every day, because he does work very hard, and if his mentality is good - and he has that - [then in] one, two years he will be one of the best midfielders in the world. To go from the second team of Manchester City to the first one, it is a huge step. Me, I was from the second team at Benfica, to Monaco, then always growing, and then Manchester City. I don’t know what kind of pressure he has, but he enjoys playing football so much and he loves what he does

[Foden, who is yet to win a senior England cap, made a 10-minute cameo off the bench in City’s season-opening 5-0 win at West Ham] He will be successful because when you have a good mentality like he has and when you are good, because he’s very good, it’s a matter of time. Sometimes you need six more months, sometimes you need one more year, but sooner or later he will be one of the best

[Bernardo Silva speaks about life in Manchester] People know who you are and sometimes people ask for pictures but it’s fine and the people of Manchester are very respectful, so when Pep gives us a day off, I go for breakfast almost every day and I take a walk in the city centre. I like Juan Mata’s restaurant and I go to Pep’s restaurant, but we have to pay double!

[Bernardo Silva blasts new handball rules after Man City are sunk by VAR again] It is never easy when you score a last-minute goal and it is disallowed, especially because last season we went out of the Champions League because of a situation exactly like this one but rules are rules and we have to accept it. It is true the ball hits his hand but come on, do you want to cut his arm [off]?

[Bernardo Silva believes Manchester City have nothing to prove and has backed his side to cope with their defensive crisis] People can criticise and say what they want. We don’t need to prove anything to anyone, after what we’ve done the last two seasons. We’re relaxed. Of course we’re not happy, because we want to do better and we know losing against Norwich isn’t ideal, but all teams have good and bad moments. It’s impossible to stay three seasons, only with good moments. Sometimes you will have bad moments and it’s the way you react to those bad moments that shows and proved how good a team you are and that’s what we’ll try to do. Every time we’ve had bad moments in the past, we’ve always reacted well, and that’s what we’ll try to do again

[Fernandinho filled in alongside Otamendi and looked comfortable as City kept a clean sheet, giving Silva confidence that his side can deal with the double blow] We saw last season that Fernandinho’s able to play in that position. He’s very intelligent and when you understand the game and you’re intelligent like he is, it’s easy. Obviously it’s not the ideal situation, because we don’t have a lot of centre-backs right now, but it’s what we have and we have no complaints. In the Premier League we’re five points behind. We want to do better, we want to try to close the gap a little bit, but in the Champions League it was a great way to start the group stage. We want to keep going this way, keep improving and try to win games

[Bernardo Silva on being Man City’s next David Silva, learning how to play with Sterling & Foden’s frustrations] Look, they are very big shoes to fill. David and I sometimes play in the same position and have the same style but I think it’s unfair on David to be compared to me because he has played at a huge level for 15 years and I am just starting. The team will go on. Yaya left, Vinny last season, Kun [Sergio Aguero] one day will go. Players will try to replace them, knowing that it’s difficult because they are some of the best players to ever play at this club. But one day if they want me to try to fill David’s shoes, I will try my best to do it

[The 25-year-old also weighed in on how he found the change in moving to City from Monaco, where he won a Ligue 1 title] I feel I am better adapted now. The difference of working with the same manager and same team-mates for three months or two years makes a huge difference. For example when you pass to Sterling you know where exactly you have to put the ball. When you first arrive, you don’t know that. You learn it

[Bernardo also added that he has sympathy for Foden, whose lack of time on the pitch this season has drawn some eyebrows] When I was in Portugal and a good [young talent] came through from Benfica, Sporting or Porto people wanted them to develop as fast as possible. But not many players can go from young teams at Barcelona, Real Madrid, City, Liverpool into the first team when they are 19. That’s normal too. Look, Phil wants to play and that’s OK but look at the players he has ahead in his position. So it’s not easy. I do think he will be able to play regularly for this club but he just needs to be calm

[Bernardo Silva eyeing long Man City stay but wants Benfica return one day] Yeah, it’s exhausting under Pep, there is no doubt about that. But it’s what we have to do. If you want to go for all the trophies season after season you need to have someone who pushes you day after day. Sometimes it’s not easy but it’s good to have someone who won’t let you slacken off’. To know that, if you stay, you are going to fight for all the titles over the next 10 years gives you the willingness and ambition to stay; to try to do your best to be important at the club. I think that’s why Sergio and David have stayed so long. I think we are now arriving at the stage where we can fight for European trophies as well

[He acknowledges that, having succeeded with both City and the Portugal national side, he no longer feels he has to make a point] I had to find another way to keep going. When I first left I wanted to prove them wrong. That did motivate me but not any more. I think what I did at Monaco and at City and for the national team, I think people in Portugal recognise that good work. I would like to go back to Benfica one day. There is a gap to fill. I was a young kid who had a dream of playing for his home club and not being able to fulfill that dream was hard. But I had to make some decisions and I don’t regret it at all

[Bernardo Silva’s post came less than 24 hours after he scored a hat-trick in City’s 8-0 victory over Watford, which saw Mendy make his first Premier League start since April] We were unbelievable in the first 30 minutes, scored lots of goals and had control. After the Norwich defeat, it was great to give our fans the result and the performance. We aimed to keep it going in the second half. We didn’t want them to hurt us or score past us. Football is a hard game. I’ve won 8-0 today but I’ve lost plenty of times by four or five goals. You just have to keep going so I wished the Watford players well

[Guardiola defends Bernardo Silva against racism allegations following controversial tweet] Honestly, I don’t know what will happen. They should put their focus on another issue because they don’t know which guy you are talking about. Bernardo is one of the most lovely people I ever met in my life. He speaks four or five languages and that is the best way to understand how open-minded he is and one of his best friends is Mendy. He’s like a brother to him.

The image is not about the colour of the skin. He took a picture of Benjamin when he was young and he related it to this cartoon, which was quite similar for the image. If they want to do that [investigate] and ask for Bernardo, I think he will be open to talk. But first you have to know exactly which person you are talking about. There are many situations with people, with white people and you look at a cartoon and the face is quite similar as your face and you put it in there, it is quite similar. I think the response from Mendy was clear after that. They are joking all the time. Maybe what I say as advice is to hide social media, if something happened it would be a mistake. Bernardo is an exceptional person. A guy who can speak five languages, it’s because he’s open-minded - nothing about the colour of the skin, nationalities or whatever

[Bernardo Silva writes to FA expressing regret over any offence in Mendy tweet] We spoke many times about what happened in stadiums, regarding Bernardo I was incredibly clear. If the people believe Bernardo is this type of person they are completely wrong. They judge one joke, I judge three years with him. Bernardo, or anyone else in my squad, do this thing for a joke. Benjamin is like a brother to Bernardo, that is what I see every single day here.

If someone feels bad for that tweet it can happen, but the people who judge Bernardo don’t know him. He’s an exceptional person. He likes to be involved in different situations. It’s a cartoon and the face is quite similar. The same happened a thousand, million times with white people. It was just a joke and that’s all. But if the people in the FA think it’s the opposite then Bernardo and City are open to listen and to say an opinion

[Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva has been handed a one-game ban and a £50,000 fine for a tweet aimed at team-mate Benjamin Mendy in September] Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3

The Manchester City midfielder’s social media activity on 22 September 2019 breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an ‘Aggravated Breach’, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin

In reaching its decision the Commission has taken careful account in particular of the following matters, namely that: a) The Player did not have any knowledge of the historical connotations of the Conguitos character. b) His tweet was not intended by him to be either racist or offensive in any way

c) The tweet was promptly deleted by the Player. d) The Player and his Club have taken steps themselves to ensure that the Player has a greater understanding of his responsibilities on social media. e) The Player made an early admission in full cooperation with the disciplinary process. f) The Player has an exemplary character and disciplinary record

[Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has described Phil Foden as an unbelievable talent] Phil is unbelievable. Every time he plays he is really good, but sometimes it’s not easy. Phil has the quality to play in teams that play in the Champions League, but in his position he has David [Silva], Kevin [De Bruyne] or Gundo [Ilkay Gundogan], so sometimes it’s tough

[When asked to compare City’s youth set up with Benfica’s] In terms of players coming to the first-team, it’s obviously more difficult to start at Man City than at Benfica, so it’s not fair to compare. But as Benfica works a lot with their young players, I think City are trying harder and harder to improve and bring some players to the first-team. When you have a squad like ours, it’s not easy for a young kid of 17, 18 or 19 to come and start playing with us. But we have good players coming in from the youth, like Phil, and hopefully there’ll be more and more

[Bernardo Silva suggested Manchester United were lucky to only be losing 3-0 at half-time in Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first-leg] I think we could have gone to half-time winning by four or five because we missed a few chances, then the second half was very hard for us. They started pressing higher, trying to control the game and getting on the ball. We got a bit tired, but I think overall it was a good performance and we’re happy with this win. It’s never easy to come here to Old Trafford against one of the best sides in England, in Europe, and to win 3-1. When you play a derby and you play Man United, you cannot always win. We were disappointed because losing at home [to United in December] is not normal for us. Coming here, in a way it makes it up to our fans, who once again were unbelievable in helping us get this win

[Silva relished the extra attacking freedom and gave his coach’s tactical tweak his seal of approval] I enjoyed it a lot, especially because we won and because it worked. I think Pep wanted one more man in the middle and that’s why he put me there. Happily, it worked

[Bernardo Silva has described David Silva as one of the best midfielders of all-time] He is one of the best midfielders of all-time. David might not score that many goals or make so many assists, but he brings something different to the team that maybe people don’t always realise - the actions before the goals and he brings so much to the team.

It is a different impact he has on the game and it is huge and maybe that’s one of the reasons he maybe didn’t have the praise in past seasons that he perhaps should have. I will miss him and I’m quite sad that he will leave us because he is a fantastic player and also a really nice guy. He helped me a lot when I first arrived at the club in training and on the pitch and I like to think I am a lot like him and we are similar in the way we are.

All players are different and I cannot compare myself to him because he has won so many things over the years. Yes, we both are technical and left-footed and can play in different positions, but there is only one David Silva. It a pleasure to play alongside him and learn from him and I hope can take some of his game and bring it in my game

[on beating Real Madrid in a last-16 tie next month] It’s nice, it’s good, but very tough because we are playing a side who has won the Champions League many times. You have to play the tougher sides in the later stages of this competition and Real Madrid are one of the best, with a fantastic manager and amazing players, but come on - these are the games you want to play in as a player and I’m really looking forward to it.

[Bernardo Silva says Bruno Fernandes will be a great asset for Man Utd] I think [Fernandes] he is going to adapt [to the Premier League], he has already played in Italy when he was younger, so it’s not his first experience abroad. I’m happy for him, I’m happy that he’s playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and I think he’s going to do great at Man Utd. The best thing about Bruno is his mentality and the way he gives himself to the team 100 per cent and he just goes in every game. It doesn’t matter who he’s playing against and his mentality and character is the best thing about him.

The first time I played with Bruno, we were 18 years old so my first game for Portugal at Under-19s was also Bruno’s first game for Portugal. Then we played together for the U21s, the national team and now we’re both in Manchester so it’s great. We’re rivals but it’s good to have him here. Changing is always complicated, you have to adapt to the way your new team plays, your team-mates, the way the manager wants to play, sometimes new systems. So maybe it will take him a few months but I think it’s good that he’s here and he’ll be a great asset for Man Utd - but hopefully not against Man City

[Bernardo Silva says Man City have been a ‘huge disappointment’ in the Premier League] The Premier League has been a huge disappointment to be so far from Liverpool and now we have to fight for the second position. It hurts a lot because when you start a season, you always want to go for the Premier League, it’s the main competition and the most important for the fans. So it’s very disappointing, no one expected us to be this far from Liverpool in January or February so it’s something that we need to learn from. We need to understand what failed and how we can solve it

I don’t think it’s how you defend or attack, I think it’s a mix of plenty of things. I think little details make a huge difference and if you look at us this season, all the little details never went our way. It’s not an excuse, we should’ve done better, and we are very disappointed in ourselves. But if you look at the injuries we’ve had, the VAR decisions that never went our way - and I’m not complaining, but in football, it sometimes goes your way and sometimes not. We create 30 chances per game and we score one or two goals. The opponents, they go close once or twice and they score one or two goals as well

The way we play is the same way we’ve been playing over the last few seasons. If you look at the stats, we’re still the team that creates the most chances and scores the most goals. But in the important moments, we’ve not been as lucky as in the past seasons. We always concede in the last minute, Liverpool always scores in the last minutes and these little details in football make the difference. The team just has to try and find a balance

Liverpool haven’t surprised me, they’re one of the best sides in the world and we knew they were going to be strong this season. It’s not just luck, they have a lot of merit, but with the little details, everything went their way

[Guardiola will prepare his players for a huge last 16 showdown against Real Madrid in Europe] We won the Community Shield at the beginning of the season, we’re in the final of the Carabao Cup and we’ve won in the FA Cup where everything is going well. In the Champions League, we finished first of the group and now we have a tough game [against Real Madrid].

The Champions League is a competition we’ve never won and I’m not going to hide that everyone at this club wants to win it. I’m very excited [about playing Real Madrid]. When you’re a young kid, you dream of playing in these competitions and playing against the best. If we deserve to win the Champions League, you have to really deserve it, you have to beat these teams to win it. It’s tough but it’s something that we’re prepared for.

People are used to Man City winning everything. If we look at the last two and a half seasons, there’s not a team in Europe that has won as many trophies as us. It’s not that because we’re not winning one title, the team goes from being one of the best to an average team. If we win the cups and the Champions League, it’s the best season this club have ever seen so there is still a lot to fight for knowing that we still have a difficult task ahead of us

[Bernardo Silva wants to play with Messi amid Barcelona transfer talk] Of course. I play with Cristiano in the national team and if I played with Messi, being able to say that I played with the best in history would be a pleasure, but it is a complicated matter. At City or in Barca it will be welcome

You learn a lot every day, it is a pleasure and he is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, and the results speak for themselves. Since I arrived two-and-a-half years ago, everything we have achieved here is very much due to Pep so it’s a pleasure to have him

Barca with Messi is always very dangerous. PSG, with Neymar and Mbappe, is a team that without as much experience as Madrid or Barca can do well. And we really want to

[Bernardo Silva says Bruno Fernandes worth every penny, and he’s just getting started!] I’m not surprised how well he has started because he’s a great player. He’s a good friend of mine, I’ve played with him since we were in the Under-19s with Portugal. His qualities? He has a great work rate, very intelligent and he’s a guy who arrives very well in the box, scores a lot of goals, gets assists. He’s a crucial player and is showing that in the first few weeks. I’m happy for him, he’s had a great start. He asked me about Manchester and I said what I thought was right. It’s a great club for him, it’s a great opportunity and he’s doing great. I’m happy for him because he’s a friend, but I just don’t want him to win on Sunday. I want to beat him obviously

[When asked why no top clubs had snapped up Fernandes before this season] I don’t know why. He was quite expensive and sometimes it’s not easy to get a player like Bruno because teams always demand so much money for players like him. But I think he’s worth the value that they paid and he’s showing it right now. I think the people should stay calm though. Even though he’s a great player it’s just the beginning. People should give him space to work and to do his job well. It’s a good start and hopefully he can keep going that way. But he can handle the pressure, yes. He was Sporting’s captain for more than two seasons and he was the leader there - and I think he can be a leader at Man United as well

It’s a very special game for the players, and for the fans and we want to give them this win. We know how difficult it is to play there. When you play against a team like Man Utd with their fans, the history and everything, it’s always special to play them. A derby is always a special game, requires pressure and passion from the fans. We are used to playing big games and these are the games we like to play

[Bernardo Silva says Man City display against Man Utd was ‘unacceptable’] It was a bad game for us. Not acceptable. We didn’t start badly and were playing quite well until we conceded. We know how good the Manchester United players are on the counterattack, very aggressive. So our performance was not acceptable. We will have to watch the game back and listen to what Pep has to say. But a team like ours cannot lose this many games. We need to check what’s not going right and try not to make so many mistakes

We started well but everything changed after the goal, a very bad performance in my opinion. Possession is important in a way but does not dictate if you play well or not. We did not control the game as we should have and maybe from the perspective of people watching the game, we had more possession but they had the more clear chances. A bad performance. I don’t think it will affect performances in the Champions League. It is not acceptable to come here and lose 2-0.

[Bernardo Silva explains Benfica desire] I don’t know how to answer that. What I can tell you is not in one, two, three or four years, for sure, because I am in a great club. I am enjoying my career a lot, I don’t want to go back now but I don’t want to go when I’m too old. I want to go help my team when I am in a good physical condition. I don’t know the exact age - not too old but not now. I’ll explain a bit more why I want to do that. I’m a Benfica fan, I used to go to all the games with my dad so my dream was always to play for Benfica and when I was 19 and playing for the second team I didn’t have the opportunity to play for the first team because the manager didn’t want me there or think I was able to play for the first team. It was a huge disappointment for me to have to leave, go to Monaco to have a good career. Because I’ve never played for my team, I have this gap in my heart and I need to fill it. Not now, obviously, but if they want me there I definitely want to go back to Benfica one day.

[Bernardo Silva believes that Manchester City players have been overlooked for individual honours] Three seasons ago, we won the league, [Liverpool] were 30 points behind and Kevin De Bruyne had an unbelievable season. Mo Salah scores a lot of goals - he’s a great player, I admire him a lot, I’m not saying otherwise - but they gave the award to Salah and not De Bruyne. The season after, it’s very tight. Raheem Sterling was on the run with Van Dijk. [It was] very tight but they gave it to Van Dijk. This [campaign], again, De Bruyne is having another unbelievable season. We’re behind… But because Liverpool are champions, probably one of them will win the award again. David Silva, Kun Aguero never won the PFA Player of the Year. I think the individual awards are very relative and it’s important, but it’s not that important. People should stop thinking about that too much in my opinion. I don’t want this to be polemic. I talked about Liverpool players, but I admire their team, I admire their players - it’s nothing to do with them, it’s just a small example

[Silva believes Liverpool deserve the title even if this season is voided] I think it’s a very sad situation. And probably now even if they win it, they won’t get to enjoy it as much as they should and as they deserve to because they won’t be able to celebrate with their fans. They won’t be able to play with a crowd - it will be tough to play in the next… I think two or three months, with a crowd. But yes, definitely they deserve this title.

[Academy product Phil Foden has been seen as a potential successor] If he stays for a long time he is definitely going to be one of the best midfielders in the world. I think it’s a good opportunity for him when David goes, to play more and have a firm position in the team. I think it’s tough because because when you talk about a club like Man City, of course it is unbelievable. He is a fantastic player and, as I said he has a huge future ahead of him, but it’s never easy when in your position you’ve got players like David, like Kevin, like [Ilkay] Gundogan. [Bernardo Silva reveals what makes Cristiano Ronaldo so special] I think what makes him so great is his mentality. He is 35 years old and it has been more than 15 years that he has played at the top level and he is not tired. He always wants more. He wants to win more Champions Leagues, he wants to win more titles with Portugal, he wants to win more leagues, more individual trophies, he wants more goals. I think what is annoying about him, in a way, is that in a training session, you play a game, and it is 1-1. The manager says whoever scores wins, and it is always him. It is not only in the games. When a game is stuck and you don’t know if you’re going to win or not, you know that if you give him the ball, he is the guy who decides; something special might happen when he has the ball. Even in the training session it is kind of annoying because it is always him that scores the most important goals! I think that is what makes him special, being there in the most important moments.

Some games you are more confident than others. I always have one thing in my mind, I say ‘Bernardo, if one day you are not feeling confident about something, just look to your left side and right side’. When I am not feeling confident about a game, I go into the tunnel, we are almost going out onto the pitch, I look around and I see Aymeric Laporte, Ederson, Fernandinho, Kevin [De Bruyne], David [Silva], Kun [Aguero], whoever. I look around and I think, ‘Why am I afraid?’ That is the good thing about having such amazing team-mates

I went to Portugal for a month and I spent it there with my close friends and family and, it is a terrible situation, but it was quite good being there and resting and being able to be with them. I have been cooking every day and I am getting really good at this. I started learning the piano a bit before this situation but now it is a good time to practice because I have plenty of time and I started reading, I like to read and write a lot. You have to try to find things to do to spend your time

[Ronaldo’s international team-mate Bernardo Silva also spoke highly of the former Manchester United superstar] I think what makes him so great is his mentality. It is not only in the games

When a game is stuck and you don’t know if you’re going to win or not, you know that if you give him the ball, he is the guy who decides; something special might happen when he has the ball. Even in the training session it is kind of annoying because it is always him that scores the most important goals! I think that is what makes him special, being there in the most important moments

[Bernardo Silva paid tribute to Pep Guardiola] Personally, I have learned a lot not only from him, but all my team-mates, since I arrived at Manchester City. He is one of the best managers ever. It is great to have him with us

I know my team-mates, the influence that he has since he arrived at Manchester City is huge. You could see it with the results, with the titles in the last three seasons. Since I have arrived, we have won plenty of trophies. It is not just that, it is the way we play. We think that we make our fans enjoy the way we play - offensive football, creating chances, scoring goals, [playing] attractive football

[Bernardo Silva admits Replacing Ronaldo is impossible, nobody can do it] Taking Cristiano’s place is impossible. Nobody is going to do that. I’m going to try and always keep improving so I can do the best I can for Portugal and my club - helping my country and team to win everything possible

Kun is goals. There’s nothing more to say about him. He hits it so hard. If you give him a bad ball, he hits it well. It’s so good to have a player who scores so easily. That’s why he’s the player with most goals in City’s history and I think he’s close to the record for the Premier League. If he carries on like this he’ll get there.

[Silva gets to work with on a regular basis at present is namesake David Silva] He’s got a lot of football left in him. With David’s style of play he can play as long as he wants. He’s really smart, he always makes the right choices and he’s physically in great shape. He can play for as long as he wants

[Manchester City star Bernardo Silva warned Real Madrid could not be written off despite his side’s strong position in the Champions League last-16 tie] You can’t write any team off, far less Madrid who have won 13 European Cups. No one else has the experience Madrid’s players have in this competition, so we can’t think we’ve already beaten them. It’s all very open. When you play a side like Madrid nothing is ever certain. We’ve seen a lot of ties in the last few years get turned around. Look at Barca last year, beating Liverpool 3-0 and then losing 4-0. You never know. It’s a good result and we’re in a great position to go through to the quarter-finals. It’s a tough match and we’ll need to play well and maintain our concentration

In the last three years we’ve won everything in England, last season we won all four English titles, this year we’ve won the Super Cup and the League Cup, we’re still in the FA Cup and we want to win that. But the Champions League is the title the club, the players and Pep in England want to win. We know it’s a tough tournament, but we’ll fight for it.

[Silva recently described Guardiola as one of the best managers ever] I know my team-mates, the influence that he has since he arrived at Manchester City is huge. You could see it with the results, with the titles in the last three seasons. Since I have arrived, we have won plenty of trophies. It is not just that, it is the way we play. [Man City star Bernardo Silva gives verdict on Ronaldo vs Messi debate] It will be something special and unique to tell my kids and grandkids I was able to give him some assists. He’s an example on and off the pitch. With Portugal, we train in the morning. In the afternoon everyone plays cards or PlayStation, but he goes to the gym. In the big moments, when you need him the most, he’s always there

[while the Messi v Ronaldo debate has now raged for over a decade] It’s a debate that’s not debatable. I think we need to feel privileged to be able to watch them at the same time together. They are two of the best players ever - if not the two best players ever.

It was an amazing feeling. When we played Manchester City [with Monaco in the Champions League], the atmosphere was amazing. After the game I was talking to my team-mates and we were saying: ‘Wow, the atmosphere in England is really good. One day I’d like to play there’. At the end of the season when they contacted me and said they wanted to buy me; it was a pleasure to join the club. So far, I’ve been very happy at the club - so it was a great choice. I’ve been lucky to play for a team like Manchester City. It’s a pleasure to be here with such amazing players and staff and be able to win so many trophies.
