[Peter Bosz is eyeing the UEFA Europa League title when they meet Manchester United in the final in Stockholm] We have done that and the final result is beautiful. Call it a victory for football. A final play is nice, but finals you play to win

[Peter Bosz was proud of Ajax FC’s run to UEFA Europa League final in Stockholm before falling short versus Manchester United] We are very disappointed. We all wanted to win. But we can leave with our heads held high. We have done well this Europa League campaign and brought joy to the fans. We have learned a lot from this experience. We have a lot of big talents and we hope to be able to hold on to them

[Bayer Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz has admitted he is unsure about the futures of top talents Julian Brandt, Kai Havertz and Jonathan Tah] It’s hard to say if they’ll play together here next year, I do not know, but I assume they’re here. All three are not done yet, so I hope the three stay together for at least a year. But, as a coach, you can only hope, you cannot decide

[Opposing boss Peter Bosz conceded Juve were good value for the win, but felt the game swung on a poor headed clearance by Jonathan Tah from which Gonzalo Higuain brilliantly controlled and rifled home the opener] We had a clear defeat. We did well in the first half but we were not able to create chances and made the mistake that led us to the goal. It is the difference between those who have experience in the Champions League and those who are building [in] it. This is the demonstration of challenging a team like Juventus

[Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz has revealed he went on a ‘dangerous’ spying mission against Louis van Gaal that ultimately failed because of his hiding spot] It was dangerous because Ajax and Feyenoord are like cats and dogs. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear from inside the car what Van Gaal said to his players. That was a pity because communication is a key for van Gaal. I did not find out that much

[Bosz admits he admires the mental strength of Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone and is wary of the team’s ability for rapid transition] I like [Atletico’s] winning mentality. They really want to win. Since Simeone has arrived, the development is unbelievable. It’s not only a team that switches from defence to offense and that defends well. It’s a team that plays good offensive football too and has great attackers

[Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz has urged young managers to implement their own style and not copy the likes of Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp] Be yourself! Try to develop your own style and not copy others. Do not be a Guardiola or Klopp. If you’re only imitating someone else, players see through that immediately. Develop a philosophy and stick to it. You have to learn, but you have to stay on your own path - and have fun. Without fun? Forget it!

[Bosz fulfilled a childhood dream in 2016 when he had the chance to learn from the legendary Johan Cruyff] In Holland he was and is the greatest. We had never seen anyone like him in the early 1970s. After returning to Holland, my brother and I absolutely had to watch his games. My brother was crazy about Ajax, Cruyff and Marco van Basten. So we always bought tickets when I did not have to play myself

[It was at Maccabi Tel Aviv that Bosz had the chance to rub shoulders with Cruyff, due to the Netherlands icon’s son Jordi Cruyff being the sporting director at the club] It was exciting. He would come over for every training session. Jordi said it was because his dad did not want to stay in the hotel all day with his mother! He really was there every day and we talked about football over coffee or food. In the discussions, I limited myself to listening. I wanted to know what he had to say, just let him talk and later analyse with Hendrie (Kruzen, assistant coach). In the end, it was the simple views and words that helped us. Sayings like: ‘if you want to score, you have to shoot’. Of course you have to, but it’s about not over-playing again and again. Shoot! Cruyff also said playing simple football is the biggest challenge

[Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz on his team’s performance in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow] We didn’t play so well tonight. The game against ‘Atleti’ was much better. In the second half we were controlling the game and deserved to win

[Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz admits his side were gifted chances on Saturday but praised his team for finding a way to hold on for all three points] The first 30 minutes were good, we also put pressure on them and scored the goals, and then the spaces were too big against a team like Bayern, so we were very lucky. It was character and mentality, especially as important players like Aranguiz had to leave the field before, and Diaby was our left-back at the end - a big compliment to the team!

[Lukas Hradecky produced a number of impressive saves to help Leverkusen earn a famous win in Bavaria] I am satisfied with the result today, of course. But we were very, very lucky. We have had many better chances than these in the last few weeks but have not scored enough goals. Fortunately it was different today. I would have liked to have had more points, but I am satisfied with the result today

[Bosz admits Leverkusen can’t keep star player] Kai is 20 years old, but this is already his fourth season in the Bundesliga. That says a lot. Everyone in Germany sees him as a child prodigy. He is from Aachen, has been here since he was eight. Nice boy to work with. Intelligent. He also plays the piano. We sold his buddy, Julian Brandt, to Borussia Dortmund last summer. Havertz suddenly became even more of an eye-catcher.

A lot came to him before the winter break. We lost the derby at Koln and three days later also at home to Hertha Berlin. Suddenly the entire stadium whistled him off. He was devastated by that. ‘Why do people hate me?’ Then he’s just another 20-year-old and you explain: ‘They don’t hate you, but this is how it goes’.

During the winter break, we showed images that he did not reach the box enough. Now he does that more often. His share of goals and assists has skyrocketed. He can’t be held on to next summer. That will be a transfer of €100 million. What am I saying? More than 100 million!

[Leverkusen manager Bosz warns Players must not repeat Hertha celebrations amid coronavirus concerns] In the beginning we talked about emotions and they are part of football. I can imagine that when Hertha scores at Hoffenheim, that they want to celebrate. They must not do it this way. I know that. Next time, I don’t think they’ll do it that way. But goals are emotional moments in which they may have forgotten. You’re not allowed to do that, but I can imagine that it happens from time to time

[Bosz insists Liverpool-linked Havertz can get even better] Kai [Havertz] is a special player, but I don’t think he played his best game today. He can do much better. I’ve known him for a long time now and I know he can do much better. It has to do with the rhythm. But for every player the captain’s armband is something special. And so it will be for Kai

We are naturally satisfied, as you have to be when you win the first game after a two-month break with 4-1 in Bremen. There were many question marks before. I think we deserved to win, although we didn’t always play very well. That has to do with the rhythm. We lost easy balls during the game, which we normally don’t lose. But like I said, if you win 4-1 here, you have to be satisfied. And I am satisfied

[Florian Wirtz: Bundesliga’s new teen star that Liverpool & Bayern missed out on] He was important for us. He played well from the start, held onto the ball and played well going forward. It’s always something special when you make your debut, especially when you’re 17, but he wasn’t nervous. All in all, it was a good performance by him

[Bosz felt Havertz showed signs of improvement from Leverkusen’s first game back after two months off during the coronavirus suspension] Kai played a little better than against [Werder] Bremen. But it’s not about Kai. We at Bayer did a great job and Kai was one of them. There were 13 others who played as well as Kai

[Bayer Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz said Kai Havertz is ‘fine’ after the in-form star suffered a late injury in Friday’s victory over Freiburg] He is fine. I don’t know how bad it is, but I think he’s going to be okay. I’m very happy for him, of course. He’s very, very talented - I think we all know that. For him to be able to be doing that gives young players a vision. Anything is possible once you work hard. I think Kai Havertz is a very hard-working player. He’s smart, and very intelligent on the pitch. I hope he continues to do this and help the team as much as possible because we need him.

[Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz also thinks highly of his charge, telling TalkSport that he sees shades of Real Madrid great Zinedine Zidane in his play] Everyone is asking about Kai Havertz. If you see him play, it tells you everything. For me, he has the elegance of Zidane. If you see his movement, he’s very elegant, he’s always calm, he has great passing ability.

[Havertz will not be risked for Bayer Leverkusen’s DFB-Pokal semi-final amid injury concerns] The match is too early for him. He’s not going to be in the squad. The question was if he’s able to play. The answer is yes he would be able, but we would take a risk and we don’t want to do that. We hope that he’s getting better und be able to play [against Schalke] on Sunday. We have to wait. It shows how big the importance is to win titles that we’re talking about it again at the moment. 1993 is a long time ago. Because of that the players, coaches and the whole club wants to win titles again. The DFB-Pokal is a possibility.

[Exequiel Palacios has made just four appearances since his January arrival from River Plate] I won’t talk about a single player and tell you what’s missing for the starting 11. Of course, I have my reasons for that. I always speak with my players about that. So I’m going to do it the same way with him. He already showed that he’s a very good player and we will see him in the future in the Bundesliga again. I will always speak with my players personally about why they’re not playing at the moment

[Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz was pleased with his side’s performance, with Bayern Munich or Eintracht Frankfurt awaiting them in the final] Satisfied because we went into the game very serious, 2-0 after 30 minutes, that’s game over. And we finished it off very well. Maybe we could’ve scored one or two more goals because we had the chances. But all in all, satisfied and happy because we’re through to the final

[Chelsea-linked Havertz ‘not thinking too much’ about summer transfer] I don’t feel that he is thinking too much about transferring. Neither are we. I certainly don’t have the impression that this will be his last game for the club. He is still under contract with us and I have to assume that he will be with us next season too. That will include the German Cup final next month and the next Europa League game against Rangers in August. Of course, that’s all dependent on nothing happening before then
